Although it’s the only studio class so far to make me feel completely incompetent, I’m going to miss screenprinting. It’s strangely satisfying. I never expected to want to make illustrative work like this, but being in this class unlocked this really weird desire to draw characters. I’m probably not going to do well in that class academically because none of this is “fine art,” but I’m way beyond caring. I’m happy with what I’ve been doing.
On another note, every day I’m reminded how lucky I am to have found a romantic partner who’s truly that, a partner. I’m about to start an employment stint in an amazing little design studio, and I can only hope that I can also find the same level of support and cooperation professionally, working in a tight-knit team that works like a miniature design family. Can professional “love” be found in a company when you’re just starting out?
Here’s a screenprinted illustration I made that sums up the type of love I like to surround myself with. Love’s not perfect, but it runs deep.
It means so much when they can tell you that you’re wrong and you actually enjoy hearing it, because you know that you’ll both just learn from it.
